Self-censorship, a never ending fight ?

Self-censorship is something that I wanted to talk about long time ago, and I've noticed that, ironically, each time I want to write about this topic I do censor myself, in the sense that I don't allow my fingers to tap words that I think controversial and that they might hurt or make me look weird, unlikeable or stupid.

Today I want to change this, I'll go ahead and talk about this topic, because why not ? And that's a very good question that when I start to think about, I'm guaranteed to have a headache.

This is a very personal opinion, I'll try my best to talk only about it from my proper point of view, and I hope to be able to express myself with no censorship, because that's the goal, because there's no reason to censor myself right ? .. right ? .. Anyway what I'm trying to say is that in life, we have more or less an understanding of who we are, what is our place in the universe and we define a little meaning out of it, except that everyone has a different meaning, which is okay, it's actually great, we are so diverse, difference is awesome, I don't want to imagine a life where we are all the same. But at the same time, each one of us, think that their vision of life is the right one, I do think so for example, I have an idea about what life is and I will probably disagree with yours if it's radically different from mine, it's normal at this point, because I have a belief system that represents more or less the compass that guides my day-to-day life and how I see the world, and through it I make decisions.

The point of this little introduction is that I do have conflictual feelings about difference, in one hand I like the fact that we are different, but in the other hand I feel that life would be ten times easier if people share the same vision of life that I have (at least the ones that are close to me), and that's crazy because these two things are fundamentally incoherent. The point from what I'm writing today is not to reach a conclusion or have an answer, it's more of a brain dump, an attempt to open the question and reflect on it.

To go back to self-censorship, I think it's very important to identify the reasons and I think I have a bunch of them:

• The fear of being judged
• The conformity mentality
• Being uncomfortable with negative feelings
• Being uncomfortable with difficult conversations
• The idea that it's not worth it because I won't be understood anyways

That's far from being an exhaustive list, but you get the idea, I stopped at 5 reasons, because I started to feel the headache building that I've mentioned earlier.
